Kiski Area School District officials and police are investigating after an elementary student was found with bullets on a morning bus route.
Superintendent Misty Slavic alerted families in a letter, saying the student had two bullets but an initial investigation showed “no evidence to suggest malicious intent” and no evidence of any weapons.
Slavic was not immediately able to be reached for comment.
It was unclear if the student was on their way to Kiski Area Upper Elementary School along Route 66, or if they were on their way to another district building.
Slavic’s letter said the student will face consequences.
She urged families to use the incident as an opportunity to talk about the importance of keeping firearms and paraphernalia locked and away from children.
“The Kiski Area School District believes that the safety of our students and staff is a priority,” the letter read. “We will continue to monitor the situation, as well as review the behavior expectations with our students.”
Anyone with additional information about the incident should contact the district.
