A longtime aide to former state Sen. Don White will replace his former boss in Harrisburg, according to unofficial election results.

Republican Joe Pittman collected nearly two-thirds of the votes cast in Tuesday’s primary to defeat Indiana University of Pennsylvania professor Susan Boser in a special election race in the 41st Senatorial District, the unofficial tallies showed.

The district includes all of Armstrong and Indiana counties and parts of Butler and Westmoreland counties, including the Alle-Kiski Valley communities of Apollo, Freeport, Leechburg, North Apollo, Gilpin, Kiski Township, Parks, South Buffalo, Buffalo Township, Avonmore, Bell Township, Oklahoma, Upper Burrell and Washington Township.

Pittman, of Indiana, served as White’s chief of staff for nearly two decades. White resigned in February with about two years left in his fifth term.
