The PA CareerLink Alle-Kiski will hold a job fair Thursday, Aug. 12 in New Kensington featuring 10 employers looking for workers.

With employee shortages reported throughout the state, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor in May stated it will help build a strong candidate pool for employers. The department’s Bureau of Workforce & Operations, PA CareerLink staff and others are trying to contact dislocated workers via mail, email and phone to offer employment services.

The CareerLink job fair in New Kensington is one of those efforts to help dislocated employees, as well as anyone else looking for a job, said Phil Grove, account representative for CareerLink Alle-Kiski.

“Whether people are moving from one job to another or are dislocated short term or long term, we have the services and we are ready to connect with them,” he said.

“The employers at the New Kensington job fair are a diverse mix from the health care, manufacturing and service industries,” he said.

The U.S. Postal Service, one of the employers at the job fair, is hiring workers for various positions in the region, including mail handlers in Warrendale and Pittsburgh.

The starting wage is $16.87 per hour, said Tad Kelley, USPS spokesman.

Other positions include mail processing clerks starting at $18.69 per hour, city carrier assistants starting at $18.51 an hour and rural carrier associates, starting at $19.06 per hour, he said.

“It is a challenge to onboard new employees presently throughout what America has been through. Again, we are no different than other companies trying to fill their complement of employees,” Kelley said. “Yet we offer competitive wages, great training, room for advancement and a history of excellent service to the public.”

Other regional and local employers featured at the CareerLink job fair in New Kensington include Presbyterian Senior Care, JV Manufacturing, RIC Coatings, Filterbuy, Penn Barrel, Giant Eagle, Polyconcept North America, Express Staffing and UPS, Grove said.
