More than 100 single-family homes and townhouses are coming to the newly renamed RIDC Armstrong Innovation Park in South Buffalo.
The project is crucial to making the property a focal point of future economic growth, Armstrong County Commissioners Chairman Don Myers said.
It’s being made possible through a partnership with the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which is a nonprofit that seeks to spur economic growth and job creation through real estate development.
“Our partnership with RIDC to date has made it clear that they understand and share our priorities and have the experience and expertise to bring our vision to fruition,” Myers said.
Formerly called the Northpointe at Slate Lick Industrial Park, and later Northpointe Industrial Park, the 925-acre site is owned by the Armstrong County Industrial Development Council.
County Commissioners Vice Chairman Jason Renshaw said the partnership with RIDC has accelerated a long-standing priority for commissioners, which is residential development.
Housing will be developed under agreements between Armstrong County Industrial Development Council and America First Enterprises.
There also are plans by RIDC to construct two industrial flex buildings at the park, which sits along Route 28 at Exit 18 (Slate Lick). They will each be about 30,000 square feet.
Commissioner Pat Fabian said Innovation Park is ideally located in terms of proximity to the Pittsburgh region while offering possibilities of future expansion within Armstrong County.
The county and RIDC previously announced a joint marketing effort to attract additional tenants, along with tech and light industrial jobs.
Timothy White, RIDC senior vice president of development, said large-scale projects work best when there is a shared vision and a partnership with community leaders.
“The board of commissioners has made this project a priority, and, working together, we can ensure that its success will be something the community is proud of,” he said.
RIDC owns more than 2,800 acres of land in 11 industrial parks, including the one along Route 28 in O’Hara.
