Hite Road bridge over Route 28 to close Friday night

The Hite Road bridge over Route 28.

The bridge on Hite Road over Route 28 in Springdale Township and Harmar will be closed this weekend, PennDOT announced Wednesday.

The bridge is scheduled to be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

The bridge is being rehabilitated. Crews this weekend will be removing traffic restrictions that were in place as construction stops for the winter.

All traffic will be detoured.

The posted detour from east of the bridge:

• From Hite Road, take the ramp to southbound Route 28 toward Pittsburgh;

• Take the Harmar, Exit 11 off-ramp;

• Turn left onto Route 910;

• Turn left onto the ramp to northbound Route 28 toward Tarentum;

• From northbound Route 28, take the Cheswick/Springdale exit, Exit 12, off-ramp to Hite Road.

The detour from west of the bridge:

• From Hite Road, take the ramp to northbound Route 28 toward Kittanning;

• Take the Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard, Exit 12A, off-ramp;

• Turn left onto Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard;

• Turn left onto the ramp to southbound Route 28 toward Pittsburgh;

• From southbound Route 28, take the Cheswick/Springdale, Exit 12, off-ramp to Hite Road.

Work will resume in the spring, and the overall project is expected to be finished next summer, according to PennDOT.

Swank Construction is the prime contractor on the $6.86 million project.
