Highlands searching for new assistant superintendent
The Highlands School District is looking for a new assistant superintendent.
The position became vacant when the school board named Monique Mawhinney to replace Michael Bjalobok as superintendent beginning April 1.
Mawhinney started as the district’s assistant superintendent in April 2018. The district had not had an assistant superintendent since 2015.
She had retained that position while also serving as substitute superintendent in Bjalobok’s place since he went on medical leave July 2.
The school board in March approved a five-year contract for Mawhinney to serve as superintendent, paying $150,000 in the first year. She formally resigned from the assistant superintendent’s post on April 15.
In a legal advertisement, Highlands is requiring assistant superintendent candidates to have a master’s degree in education; a doctorate is preferred. Candidates must also have at least five years of administrative experience, with district office or central office experience preferred.
The district is accepting applications until a hire is made.
