Two challengers sent an incumbent packing Tuesday in primary races for Highlands School Board, according to unofficial results.

All three candidates cross-filed to seek two nominations up for grabs in the Republican and Democratic primaries in Highlands’ Region 3.

Kristie J. Babinsack, 46, won the GOP and Democratic races, collecting 43.1% and 42.6%, respectively, of the votes counted, the tallies showed.

Laura Butler, 66, finished second in both races, collecting 37.8% of the GOP votes cast and 34.5% of the Democratic votes, according to the results.

Incumbent Michelle Peters, 46, who was appointed to the board in February 2018, finished a distant third in both races.

Primary races in Highlands’ Regions 1 and 2 were uncontested.
