Highlands changes location of school closure hearing, school board meeting
The Highlands School District has changed the location for a public hearing and school board meeting on Monday.
The hearing and meeting, previously set to be held in the library at Highlands High School in Harrison, will instead be held in the high school auditorium, according to a notice on the district’s website.
The hearing, at 6 p.m., concerns the permanent closing of the Highlands Support Center, formerly known as Fawn Elementary School.
The school board agenda planning meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The school board’s next voting meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 18. At that meeting, the school board is expected to vote on a $46 million preliminary budget for the 2019-20 school year.
The district will seek approval from the state Department of Education to increase property taxes by more than its state-imposed limit of 3.3 percent without a voter referendum based on special education and retirement costs, according to the notice and district officials.
