Ten Harrison roads will be paved this month, including the busy section of Broadview Boulevard in front of the Heights Plaza Shopping Center.
The nearly $312,000 project is scheduled to begin Aug. 14.
Commissioners approved the bid in February from Shields Paving. Members said they were pleased to see the contract come in under the budgeted $400,000.
Township Manager Amy Rockwell said roads throughout the township are evaluated each year by the public works superintendent, who recommends fixes to the commissioners.
Roads to be paved are: Cambridge and Gordon streets; Montana, Park and 12th avenues; Veterans Way; McWilliams and Forest drives; Primrose Lane; and Broadview Boulevard in front of Heights Plaza, from J.P. Marino Boulevard to the new asphalt section in front of the Harrison Hi-Rise.
People who shop or eat at the plaza should be aware that they will need to access stores from farther down Freeport Road, at Dallas Avenue. The intersection of J.P. Marino and Broadview boulevards will not be usable on the day it is milled and paved.
Shields Paving will notify residents when crews will be in each area by posting the streets with the dates and times for work, Rockwell said.
Already this year, Harrison paid to improve walkways near the high-rise.
Walkers and bikers who travel near the apartment building now have new sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps. The route is used by people to get to the plaza and to cross Broadview Boulevard to McDonald’s.
The cost of that work was paid for by a $79,500 state grant from the Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund.
