Volunteers filled more than 100 bags with trash in Harrison’s Earth Day cleanup on Saturday.
A total of 64 volunteers turned out, including 34 in Natrona Heights and 30 in Natrona, Commissioner Chuck Dizard said. That included people from Fawn and Tarentum.
“Amazingly, a few of the nasty areas were much improved over the last two years,” he said.
Dizard said 118 bags were filled from seven roads and areas — Karns, 30 bags; Natrona, Pleasantville and Spring Hill, 20 bags each; Argonne and Vermont, 10 bags each; and Alter, eight bags.
Also collected were 25 tires, five televisions and two mattresses.
“Not bad for a couple hours of work,” Dizard said.
PennDOT will pick up the piles on Pleasantville and Burtner roads. Township public works crews were expected to pick up the rest on Monday.
“We’ll do this again next year,” Dizard said.
