A 9-year-old girl hit by a car Thursday evening in New Kensington is expected to be OK, city police said Friday.
The incident on Seventh Street at Meade Avenue was reported at 5:40 p.m., a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said.
Dan Hockenberry, who lives on one corner of the four-way intersection not far from Martin Elementary School, was home but did not see the incident. He came outside after a neighbor told him it had happened.
He said the girl had been riding a pink scooter down the hill on Meade toward Seventh Street. He did not know what kind of vehicle struck her.
The girl was lying on the road with people attending to her. Her parents were quickly found, and they headed to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The girl was in stable condition, police said Friday.
The accident reinforced Hockenberry’s concerns about drivers speeding on Seventh Street.
“They need to do something about the speeders on this road,” he said.
