Freeport Community Park is getting a $240,000 Commonwealth Finance Authority grant to repair parking lots and walking trails.
State Sen. Joe Pittman and Rep. Jeff Pyle said Tuesday some of the state’s Marcellus Impact fee was earmarked for community parks through the state’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation program.
The repair work will be done near Laube Hall.
“I’m pleased.” Pittman said. “This park is definitely a key facility for the Freeport area, including both Armstrong and Butler counties. These renovations are long overdue and they will further enhance a great recreational asset in the Route 28 corridor,” he said.
Pyle said the park is a gem.
“This grant represents a sizeable investment by the state,” he said. “The improved parking area and trails will improve the quality of life for everyone in the region.”
The Financing Authority was established as an independent agency to the state’s economic stimulus packages.
