Fox Chapel Area School Board has new leadership.

Marybeth Dadd was elected president, and Ron Frank was elected vice president.

Dadd, who represents the district’s Region 3, said her priority is to work with fellow members to keep schools safe and help families get through the covid-19 pandemic.

Once a vaccine is widely available, Dadd said her focus will be “getting back to normal and helping students adjust to everything they just experienced.”

As of Monday, the district reported 62 confirmed and probable cases of covid-19 in the district so far this school year. About one-third of the cases were reported in December, with 10 at the high school, seven at Dorseyville Middle School, two at Hartwood Elementary and one at Kerr Elementary.

Superintendent Mary Catherine Reljac said the district is tracking its cases in each building over a 14-day rolling period, and cases are included if a person is physically in the building while infectious.

Currently, elementary students are in full-time, in-person classes and older students remain in a hybrid learning model.

“Right now, I think most families are trying to get through the pandemic in the best way they know how,” Dadd said. “I think families want to see their children remain productive and healthy as we navigate our way through this crazy time.”

The school board typically meets at 7 p.m. the first and second Mondays of each month. A full schedule of meeting locations is available on the district website, although meetings will be hosted virtually for at least the near future.

Dadd and Frank were each elected to the board in 2019.

Frank represents Region 2. He taught art in the district more than 40 years and served as president of the Fox Chapel Educators Association.

“Our district partners take great pride in providing opportunities for students in every grade level, both inside the classroom setting and in hundreds of extracurricular opportunities,” he said. “My goal is to work with the administration, staff and fellow board members to keep students and staff safe while maintaining our mission of preparing students educationally.”

He said the board needs to listen to stakeholders and work together to continue on a path of success.
