Fox Chapel-area families came out in droves to paint pumpkins and participate in other festive activities with police Oct. 19 at the borough station.

More than 150 pumpkins were distributed. Officers also grilled hot dogs and provided other snacks.

A “Mini Beat Power Rockers” movie played in the background as folks participated in other craft activities.

Children left with painted pumpkins, a cup full of candy and other goodies.

“We had so much fun. There was so many people,” Fox Chapel police Sgt. Craig Sorg said of the event. “Each child gets a pumpkin. With the parents and family that comes with them, we had over 200 people.”

The event also served as a food drive for the Blawnox Food Pantry.

Officers collected a grocery cart full of nonperishable goods and more than $300 in monetary donations.

“We just want to help everyone in the community that we can, and I think Blawnox is a great organization and we like to support it,” Sorg said.
