The former secretary-treasurer of Kiski Township has been charged by state police for allegedly making $6,309 in unauthorized purchases using township credit accounts over three years.

Monica L. Austin, 48, of Apollo, was charged by Armstrong County state police with access device fraud and theft in connection with numerous incidents that occurred between September 2015 and October 2018.

Trooper Meghan Flati reported that the thefts were discovered in 2018 by a new township employee who noticed several unauthorized purchases on township credit card statements.

Search warrants for PayPal, Amazon and other sources disclosed unauthorized purchases were made by Austin using township funds during the 37-month period, Flati said.

Austin was employed by the township from 2011 until Oct0ber 2018 when she was placed on unpaid leave by township supervisors.

The complaints were filed Friday before District Judge James Andring in Leechburg, Flati said.

Austin could not be reached for comment.
