Eureka Hose volunteer Susan Clark appointed to fill Tarentum Council vacancy
The newest member of Tarentum Council is a familiar face in the borough.
Susan Clark, who serves as rescue captain of Eureka Fire-Rescue-EMS, was appointed this week to fill a vacancy left after council President Scott Dadowski won two seats in the November election.
Dadowski chose to keep his position representing the 2nd Ward. He relinquished the at-large council seat, meaning people from any ward could apply.
Clark lives in the 1st Ward.
She was among three residents, including Eric Miles and Wendy Conn, to seek the council seat. Council held a special meeting Feb. 6 to conduct public interviews.
Clark declined to comment on her recent appointment.
She will serve as chairperson of the borough’s public safety committee.
Dadowski said the borough is fortunate to have three people express interest in serving on council.
“All three brought their own views and experiences to the table,” he said. “I welcome Susan to council and look forward to working with her in the future.”
Dadowski said he was pleased that several residents wanted to get involved in local government and encouraged Miles and Conn to volunteer their time through other municipal activities.
Council Vice President Lou Ann Homa said each of the three applicants was qualified.
Clark stood out, Homa said, because of her many years with Eureka.
“She has knowledge of what our volunteer firefighters and EMS need to succeed,” Homa said. “Emergency services are vital to the borough, which is the reason she was put on the public safety committee.”
