An East Deer couple is charged with breaking into a house and stealing more than $3,000 worth of items later sold at a scrap yard.

Joseph Samuel Gould, 35, told police he stole copper wire and a generator from the home and sold them for about $72 at PJ Greco Sons Inc. in Tarentum, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.

Gould’s wife, Carla Jean Josefoski, 36, also is charged in the theft.

Police charged Gould with felony counts of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit theft and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief. Josefoski faces felony charges of burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property.

Warrants were issued for their arrest this week. They both remained at large Thursday afternoon.

On Feb. 26, police said they received a report of a burglary at a home along Freeport Road. The property owner told police generators, copper piping, wiring, a furnace and numerous hand tools had been taken. Someone also had kicked in a door.

Police said a video from a neighboring residence shows Gould and Josefoski scouting the area near the home at the time of the burglary. It also showed a pickup truck pulling up to the scene, the complaint said.

On March 2, Gould spoke briefly with police. He said he was at the “red house” and did remove “some items,” which he received little money for after taking them to Greco’s, according to the complaint. The house where the burglary was reported is painted red.

Police said receipts from Greco’s show Gould turned in scrap for roughly $72 on March 2. A generator wasn’t listed on the receipt, though.
