The northbound ramp at Exit 7 off Route 28 will close Wednesday for at least a month.

A long-term ramp closure along northbound Route 28 will impact drivers heading to Aspinwall and beyond.

Motorists who use the ramp at Delafield Road (Exit 7) will need to find an alternate route to access Aspinwall, Fox Chapel and The Waterworks.

The ramp will shut down at 7 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to remain closed through mid-June, PennDOT announced.

Crews will be working around-the-clock on drainage improvements and ramp reconstruction.

Work is part of a $47 million project to revamp the Highland Park Bridge interchange. Construction includes reconstruction of Route 28 between North Canal Street and Kittanning Pike in Sharpsburg and also extends to Delafield Road in Aspinwall.

When complete, the project will reestablish two lanes in each direction along the expressway and is expected to alleviate traffic tangles.

The project will also see reconstruction of the Route 28 ramps with the Highland Park Bridge and Freeport Road, bridge preservation, roadway widening, sound barriers and other safety upgrades.

A suggested detour will take drivers past Delafield Road to Exit 8, where they can access Fox Chapel Road, Waterworks Drive and Freeport Road.
