Dollar General along Route 908 in Fawn is now open.

The Dollar General along Route 908 in Fawn is open.

The store sits at the intersection of Saxonburg Road, which is a convenient drive for Harrison residents who live near the township line.

Fawn Secretary/Treasurer Pam Ponsart said it appears to be popular in its first week.

“There’s lots of people going in,” she said.

The store, built on a vacant lot once home to a bait store and gas station, is expected to create up to 10 jobs. It offers food, cleaning supplies, paper products, medicines, pet food and baby goods, among other items.

The location also includes the company’s new home decor and expanded party prep, company representatives said.

“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve,” said Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development.

Simonsen said the company is committed to its communities by supporting education initiatives through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The addition of the Fawn store opens the opportunity for schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the store to apply for grants.

Since 1993, the foundation has doled out more than $238 million to help 19.6 million people with literacy or continued education.

Despite three other Dollar General stores in neighboring towns, Ponsart believes residents will appreciate the convenience offered by the new location, especially residents along Ekastown Road and farther down Route 908.

Headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tenn., Dollar General has more than 19,000 stores in 47 states, according to its website. It employs more than 185,000 people.
