Students in the Deer Lakes School District are losing three of their spring break days to make up for days lost to the recent bitterly cold weather.

Deer Lakes was among the numerous districts that cancelled classes on Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1 because of the cold and icy roads.

The district also cancelled classes on Nov. 16 because of the weather, district spokesman James Cromie said Thursday.

Deer Lakes students will now have classes on Monday, Feb. 18, which is Presidents’ Day.

Classes also will be held on Thursday, April 18; Monday, April 22; and Tuesday, April 23. Those dates originally were part of the district’s annual spring break, but, “will now be treated as school days,” Cromie said.

Despite the loss of those three days, students will still get to enjoy a three-day weekend in April — there will not be classes on Friday, April 19, which is Good Friday.
