The race for an at-large Tarentum Council seat finished with a razor-thin margin, as Democratic incumbent Scott Dadowski edged Republican newcomer Maggie Smith by eight votes.

According to unofficial results from the Allegheny County Elections Division, Dadowski earned 319 votes to Smith’s 311.

“I want to thank the residents for their support,” said Dadowski, 48. “I am both humbled and honored to continue to have the opportunity to represent all of the citizens of the borough.”

Smith, 49, will still serve on council, since she ran unopposed for a four-year term in the 3rd Ward. Dadowski also ran unopposed for a four-year term in the 2nd Ward.

“I am honored to represent the ward that I grew up in and live in,” Smith said. “I am looking forward to working with council and representing everyone in my ward and always making the best decisions for everyone.

“Thank you to every single person that came out and voted. I am truly grateful for all the support.”

There were three available seats on council, which means a new member will need to be appointed to fill the third position.

Dadowski is uncertain which seat he is claiming. He has until January to make that decision.

“We have accomplished many great things for our residents in the last six years,” Dadowski said.

He hopes to make public safety a top priority in his next term and focus on continued efforts of redevelopment of the business district and riverfront.

“It continues to be a goal to improve the quality of life for all residents,” he said.

Other races in the borough were uncontested. Incumbents Ray Kerr and Kevin Bertocki ran unopposed.
