Crash in New Kensington sends 1 person to hospital
A man was hurt when his pickup went off the road and overturned in a ditch in New Kensington on Thursday night.
The crash happened about 8:25 p.m. at the Route 56/356 interchange, a Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said.
The man’s identity was not available.
Fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr. said the man was driving a pickup on Route 56 toward New Kensington. He went under the overpass, and, as he went around the bend, cut across the oncoming lanes and continued into the middle part of the cloverleaf, where the pickup rolled onto its roof in a drainage ditch.
The man was initially trapped. Police had him almost completely out when firefighters arrived, Saliba said.
No other vehicles were involved.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison.
The road reopened about 9:30 p.m.
