Two people died and two others were hurt Saturday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Buffalo Township, police Chief Tim Derringer said.

The crash at South Pike (Route 356) and Younkins roads was reported about 2:50 p.m.

The road was still closed as of 6:30 p.m. and was expected to remain closed for an extended period, the chief said. South Pike was closed from Giant Eagle north to Parker Road. Younkins Road was closed from Bear Creek Road to South Pike.

Derringer said a state police reconstruction team was being called in. The incident involved a car and two SUVs, he said.

A woman who was a passenger in the car was killed, according to the chief. The man driving it was severely injured and flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh but later died, he said.

A woman driving one of the two SUVs was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Derringer said the extent of her injuries was unknown.

The two women in the second SUV were shaken up but not hurt, according to the chief.
