Demolition of a building in the heart of the Tarentum business district will interrupt traffic for a few days this week.
A three-story brick building at 215 Corbet St. is scheduled to come down, beginning Tuesday.
The project is expected to last two to three days.
Borough Manager Dwight Boddorf said traffic will be affected along Third Avenue and Corbet Street.
Lane restrictions will be in place while crews from Ron Gillette Inc. perform the demolition.
“A section of Third Avenue and, if needed, Corbet Street will be restricted to a single lane,” Boddorf said.
If necessary, both lanes could be shut down during the work.
People traveling through the borough are advised to use East Second Avenue, and Allegheny and Rose streets.
Borough officials were hoping to see the demolition happen late last year but an original contract for $29,500 was never carried out.
Council in February awarded the job to Gillette, which was the next-lowest bidder at about $39,000.
Demolition of the former convenience store and apartment will open the street and make room for a park area with landscaping and benches. There could also be a few parking spaces designated.
Code Enforcement Officer Anthony Bruni said the lot will sit empty for a few weeks before crews can begin beautification efforts in the spring.
