Harrison Commissioner Chuck Dizard hangs a sign to honor Brackenridge Chief Justin McIntire ahead of Wednesday’s funeral procession.

An online fundraiser for slain Brackenridge police Chief Justin McIntire has topped its $100,000 goal in just four days since it was first posted.

People and businesses across the Alle-Kiski Valley have stepped up in a major way to help McIntire’s widow, Ashley, and his four children.

Donations were nearing $102,000 Monday afternoon.

Among the largest donations are $10,000 each from ATI Specialty Rolled Products and Matt and Lisa Mertz.

Realty One Group Horizon and Swank Construction Co. both gave $5,000.

FundtheFirst.com supports families of law enforcement agents killed in the line of duty.

“McIntire was the first to run toward danger in an attempt to remove a known criminal from the streets to keep his community safe,” said Cassie Evans, a relative who started the fundraiser Jan. 4, two days after his death.

She appreciated that so many donors have pitched in — 940 so far — giving large and small amounts.

“So many admired and looked up (to) the example he set of how to be a light in the community,” Evans wrote on the fundraising page. “We want to come together for Ashley and the kids to help take any amount of stress off that we can. Justin gave his life protecting the community, now it’s our turn to give back to his family.”

Other fundraisers have continued across the region.

The Tarentum Police will have a sale Saturday and Sunday of “In Memory of Justin McIntire” stickers.

The cost is $5 each with proceeds benefiting the McIntire family.

At the same time, people can purchase a T-shirt designed by people from local law enforcement families as a benefit for the McIntires. The shirts, endorsed by Tarentum Police as an official fundraiser, are available in sizes small through extra large for $15 and 2X to 4X for $18.

Both sales are cash only and will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tarentum Borough Building, 318 Second Ave.

For people who want to send well wishes or prayers, three locations will be available to drop off cards for McIntire’s family, injured Tarentum Officer Jordan Schrecengost or the officers who have volunteered to cover local shifts in Brackenridge, Tarentum and Harrison.

Letters, cards and pictures will be collected Tuesday and Wednesday at the following locations:

• Salvation Army, 917 Brackenridge Ave.

• Generations House of Worship, 1160 Parkside Drive, Brackenridge.

• Guardian Angels Parish-Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 800 Montana Ave., Harrison.

No money or gifts will be accepted.

Cards must be unsealed.
