Newly appointed Fox Chapel Police Chief Michael Stevens is on a mission to promote unity in the borough.
A “Coffee With Cops” meet-and-greet is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library, 403 Fox Chapel Road.
“The purpose of the coffee with cops is to allow the residents to get to know the Fox Chapel officers,” Stevens said.
“One of my main goals when I became chief was to provide opportunities for the residents to interact with its police force.”
The event is free and is back after a hiatus.
“I want to continue this event and promote it in a way that more residents will attend. Better attendance should result in a closer connection with the community,” Stevens said.
Stevens pointed out Fox Chapel Borough has no businesses and is entirely residential.
“We don’t have a business district where we can walk around and get to know people,” Stevens said. “We must be intentional in our actions and reach out and become one with the community.”
All ages are welcome to attend and residents are encouraged to discuss ideas, share stories and brainstorm ways to make the community a safer place to work and reside.
Stevens will attend, along with other daylight shift police officers.
Stevens, 55, has served with the Fox Chapel police for 33 years. He was appointed chief in August.
“I believe these conversations will be a good gauge on where we are as a department and hopefully provide some ideas on areas we can improve,” Stevens said.
“I plan on listening to residents which will give me ideas on where and how to deploy the department’s resources.”
