People from Blawnox and surrounding communities participated in the borough’s National Night Out celebration Aug. 1 at Blawnox Community Park.

Blawnox families and folks from surrounding neighborhoods gathered in the borough’s community park to celebrate first responders.

About 150 people participated in Blawnox’s fourth annual National Night Out celebration Aug. 1.

It was presented by the nonprofit Best of Blawnox (BoB).

Children learned about fire safety, explored police vehicles and met various emergency personnel.

There was a mobile fire safety trailer, which featured a kitchen and bedroom. Firefighters used it to show families how to get out of home emergencies safely.

Folks also took part in various games, a dance party and learned about a community garden.

Some took home prizes.

There were people from Aspinwall, Sharpsburg, Fox Chapel, O’Hara and Bridgeville, in attendance.

“It was a very fun evening,” said BoB President Diane Casile.

Night Out is one of the many Best of Blawnox community events. More information about its programs is available at bestofblawnox.com.
