Bidding process underway for demolition of Colfax Elementary School in Springdale
Plans continue for the eventual demolition of Colfax Elementary School in Springdale.
The Allegheny Valley School Board on Wednesday authorized district administrators to seek contract bids for the demolition of the Colfax building, which sits along Colfax Street.
The building is 99 years old. It closed in 2018 and has since sat vacant.
The board also intends to retain AGX Inc., an environmental consulting firm in McCandless, as the air-monitoring and testing agency for the demolition project.
Bid documents for the project, which includes asbestos abatement and demolition, were ready last week, according to a timeline presented by Canzian/Johnson & Associates, a New Kensington architectural firm leading the project for the district.
The project has been advertised. Bid proposals are due Aug. 16.
It’s anticipated that the board will select a company in September.
Superintendent Pat Graczyk said Canzian representatives will continue to attend school board meetings.
“At this point, we have (Canzian) regularly attend our meetings to provide public updates on the process,” he said.
