State police believe alcohol was a factor in a crash of an all-terrain vehicle that sent two people to area hospitals Friday in Armstrong County.

Daniel Beers, 50, and Tawnee Coleman, 49, both of Dayton, were seriously injured when the ATV they were aboard crashed along Country Road in Wayne Township about 7 p.m., according to state police in Kittanning.

Trooper Darren Rice said Beers was driving the 2005 Suzuki when he turned into an embankment along the road, causing it to roll over. Police said the overturned vehicle slid 37 feet before it came to rest.

Beers was taken by ground ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, while Coleman was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital by STAT Medevac, reports said.

Neither rider was reportedly wearing a helmet, according to police.
