Allegheny Valley Hospital is among seven Allegheny Health Network hospitals and affiliated institutes recognized by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association’s Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
Allegheny Valley earned a “Blue Distinction Center-Plus” designation for knee and hip replacement.
The hospital was recognized for its efficiency in delivering care in addition to high quality, clinical expertise and better overall outcomes.
“The Blue Distinction program gives Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield members the ability to choose their providers based upon reliable quality and safety information,” said Dr. Charles DeShazer, senior vice president and chief medical officer for Highmark. “It is also a pathway for exceptional providers to demonstrate their value, and delivers the kind of transparency necessary for members to make informed, value-driven health care decisions.”
This recognition comes on the heels of the Harrison hospital being recognized for its care of stroke patients.
Allegheny General received the same designation for knee and hip replacement, spine surgery and cardiac care. It also earned a Blue Distinction Center designation for adult heart and liver transplants, while the AHN Cancer Institute received the same designation.
Like Allegheny Valley, Canonsburg and Jefferson hospitals also were recognized for knee replacement. Forbes was recognized for knee and hip replacement and cardiac care.
Saint Vincent Hospital was recognized for cardiac care, knee and hip replacement, maternity care and spine surgery. West Penn Hospital was recognized for bariatric care, cardiac care and maternity care.
