Agents: Springdale woman used dentist's ID to call in fake drug prescriptions

A Springdale woman is accused of using her dentist’s identity to obtain prescription painkillers from a New Kensington pharmacy.

Investigators say Nicole Yvonne Resnick, 39, told a narcotics agent with the state Attorney General’s Office she called in most of the prescriptions under other people’s names.

She told the agent that not all of the prescriptions were for her. Her mother and older sister wanted them, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.

Resnick, investigators say, told them the women threatened to call child services on her if she didn’t get them the drugs and almost everything she had called in went to family members.

Her mother, Kathy Yvonne Resnick, 63, of Harrison, also is charged in the case.

The agent said he was informed by Dr. Andrew Dunlevy that someone was using Dunlevy’s Drug Enforcement Administration number to obtain fraudulent prescriptions for Tramadol tablets, even though Dunlevy hadn’t prescribed them to anyone since June 11, the complaint said. Tramadol is a powerful pain reliever.

Nicole Resnick claimed that she can’t take Tramadol because she has seizures.

Information from the Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Monitoring Program showed that the drugs had been prescribed to five people on seven occasions after June 11, one being Nicole Resnick, who was a patient of Dunlevy’s, according to the complaint.

The drug-monitoring program is an electronic database that maintains records of prescription drugs that are filled at pharmacies.

Nicole Resnick told the agent she got Dunlevy’s DEA number from a prescription she got after she had dental implants put in at Dunlevy’s office.

The fake prescriptions were called into several local pharmacies, including the Walgreens pharmacy on Leechburg Road in New Kensington, the complaint said. The locations of the other pharmacies weren’t listed in the criminal complaint.

Nicole Resnick faces more than a dozen charges, including felony obtaining drugs by misrepresentation and misdemeanor counts of drug possession and identity theft.

She remains free on $25,000 unsecured bond while awaiting a May 30 preliminary hearing before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.

Kathy Resnick was charged via summons with a misdemeanor count of drug possession. She also is scheduled to appear before Pallone on May 30.

Attorneys weren’t listed for either woman. Dunlevy declined to comment.
