Actor Trevor Donovan to return to Deer Lakes School District for special assembly, service night project

Actor Trevor Donovan will make an appearance at Deer Lakes Middle School on Thursday morning for a special assembly focused on anti-bullying.

The appearance is a part of GAC Family’s “Giving and Caring” initiative. Deer Lakes School District partnered with the family cable network to conduct a schoolwide assembly focused on bullying prevention, according to the school’s press release.

Donovan is known for his role as Teddy Montgomery on the hit drama series “90210.”

The assembly will unveil “Team Upstanders,” an anti-­bullying initiative created with Deer Lakes Guidance Counselor Jackie Jaros. The school will nominate 10 students to represent the campuswide initiative to help support the school’s anti-bullying efforts. Deer Lakes students will participate in interactive situations displaying examples of bullying occurring in schools. The exercise will show how to treat others with empathy and kindness.

Donovan will share personal anecdotes of experience with bullying and the importance of treating others with respect.

This will mark Donovan’s second visit at the school since December 2019, when the school held an assembly called “Everybody Has a Story.” The assembly focused on anti-bullying and showcased the impact bullying has on people and how positive social media use can combat it.

A related service project — “Spring Into Action: Be an Upstander” — will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deer Lakes Middle School. The project will be an extension of the morning assembly. The community will have the opportunity to meet Donovan and participate in the evening activities.
