3 more well pads coming to Fawn
Three more well pads are expected to be constructed in Fawn this year along Sun Mine Road.
Supervisors in December approved a conditional use application by Range Resources to implement the project.
Township Secretary Pam Ponsart said the well pads will be constructed on the Norris property in the 2700 block of Sun Mine Road.
“They’re cutting the road right now,” Ponsart said. “Other work will most likely wait until the weather breaks.”
The property sits in an industrial zone near the Clinton Township border.
Canonsburg-based Range Resources develops natural gas from shale and is not new to Fawn. The company first developed a well in the township in 2012.
The project is expected to bring some inconveniences, such as increased traffic, associated with the work, said Mark Windle, director of corporate communications for Range Resources.
“We make every effort possible to best eliminate, mitigate and reduce these possible inconveniences by working with local communities,” he said.
“Once the wells are completed and producing gas, things like the drilling rig and hydraulic fracturing pumps go away and we are just maintaining the production facilities.”
Windle said the company previously installed three well sites in Fawn, each with multiple pads. There is an existing pad on the Norris property that sits just across the road.
Plans to develop along Sun Mine Road this year include construction of three wells with the potential for more at a later time.
Intermittent construction will begin in the spring, Windle said.
Range Resources has been operating in the state for more than 25 years, completing its first Marcellus shale well in 2004.
“The company has developed more than 1,300 shale wells since we pioneered the Marcellus shale,” Windle said.
In nearby Frazer, work is underway on a fifth fracking well pad by Range Resources.
Lori Ziencik, township secretary and supervisor, said the company was approved last summer for the Drape James well pad at 60 Kenny Lane.
That property is zoned rural agricultural and allows the use, Ziencik said.
Windle said Range Resources has been operating in Frazer for more than 10 years.
