One man died in a Kittanning apartment fire early Friday, Jan. 29, 2021.

A 69-year-old man died in a fire early Friday in Kittanning.

The Armstrong County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as John W. Bodurka.

Coroner Brian Myers said Bodurka was found in his bedroom after firefighters put out the fire at an apartment building in the 400 block of North Jefferson Street.

The fire had been reported around 2:30 a.m., according to county 911 dispatchers.

Firefighters reported seeing flames showing from the building’s second floor when they arrived and began searching for residents who may not have been able to get out.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., authorities reported that a person had died in the blaze. No other injuries were reported.

Myers said there were no signs of foul play and Bodurka’s death was ruled accidental. A state police fire marshal and Kittanning police are investigating.
