House explosion victim IDs confirmed

The catastrophic explosion obliterated the Mitchells’ home, scattering debris across the tiny neighborhood.

“It’s debris everywhere,” Cort Matey, the Mitchell’s son-in-law, said shortly after the explosion.

Bits of the Mitchells’ house — black scraps that looked like insulation — were hanging 20 or 30 feet off the ground in the branches of nearby trees.

3 Pittsburgh high school students hospitalized after eating ‘unknown edible candy’

Three Pittsburgh Public Schools high school students have been released from the hospital after they fell ill when eating an “unknown edible candy.”

School district spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said a group of five students on Tuesday ingested the “unknown substance,” but only three were taken to the hospital.

Westmoreland looks to shed label of being a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants

Westmoreland was one of 14 Pennsylvania counties to receive the designation, with the group contending that the county “obstructs immigration enforcement and shields criminals.” Allegheny County also is identified as a sanctuary county.

Westmoreland officials said they have been criticized about the designation on social media and at public meetings in recent months.

Is it time to replace the Mon Incline? Officials ponder its future

Pittsburgh Regional Transit officials are discussing what the future of the 154-year-old Monongahela Incline will look like, including the possibility it could be replaced by more modern technology.

Any replacement or large change to the incline would take a significant capital project. Pittsburgh Regional Transit officials said it is too early to discuss potential costs or funding sources.
