Meet the gang of nine bison that provide a unique attraction in the South Park Game Preserve — Big Head, Daisy, Rosie, Violet, Lily, Alice, Crimson, Clover and Baby Diane.

Technically, they’re bison, but most visitors call them buffalo, and herds have called South Park in Allegheny County home since 1927.

Melanie Meade monitors plumes of pollution.

Her hilltop home overlooks Clairton Coke Works, the largest coke-manufacturing facility in North America — and Allegheny County’s top source of air pollution.

From that tree-dotted perch, Meade uses her iPhone almost daily to photograph emissions spewing from the 123-year-old plant’s coke ovens. Then she shares them with Allegheny County health officials, creating a kind of pollution record.

• McDonald’s sued over sex assault by ex-manager settles with victim for $4.35M

A former McDonald’s employee who was sexually assaulted at age 14 at her Bethel Park workplace by a manager, a registered sex offender, has reached a $4.35 million settlement with the franchisee, the victim’s attorney announced Monday.

The girl had recently started her job when, authorities said, Walter Garner raped her in the restaurant’s bathroom in spring 2021.
