A 19-year-old Braddock man was fatally shot on Sunday afternoon.

Allegheny County 911 was notified of a shooting on the 500 block of 4th Street in Braddock at 1:35 p.m. First responders then found Marvin D. Matthews deceased inside a residence.

William Shelton, 19, of Braddock, has been charged with criminal homicide, following an arraignment early Monday morning.

Police said a female witness arrived at the Braddock Police Station, initially telling police she had shot Matthews, according to a criminal complaint. Shelton, however, told police he had shot Matthews after an altercation at the residence Matthews shared with the female witness, according to court document.

Police said the witness later told them that during a fight with Matthews, Shelton had come into the room and shot him three times, according to the criminal complaint.

Shelton was denied bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. He faces a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. July 1 in Judge Kim Berkeley Clark’s Pittsburgh court.

Allegheny County Police are requesting that anyone with information concerning this incident call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.

The shooting in Braddock is the second of the weekend within Allegheny County. A double shooting occurred on Saturday in Mt. Oliver.
