A student was taken into custody Tuesday at Carrick High School after a gun was found in the school, according to Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh.

The Parkfield Street school went into lockdown after a social media post circulated indicating there was a gun in the school. City and school police searched the school with a canine and found and confiscated the firearm, Pugh said.

Authorities did not identify the student, nor did they indicate what charges would be filed.

Pugh said the school will operate under a modified lockdown on Wednesday as a precaution. No one will be allowed to enter or leave the building without a prior appointment.
