The state police are investigating a pursuit that started at the Parkway East (Interstate 376) eastbound near the Swissvale on-ramp, police said.

The chase started with a Chrysler minivan near the Swissvale ramp around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the state police. The vehicle minivan got off the Parkway eastbound at Monroeville and then re-entered the Parkway traveling in the opposite direction.

Patrol units pursued the minivan until it crashed on the Swissvale off-ramp, state police said.

Both people in the car ran from the crash scene, according to police.

One man was taken into custody shortly after fleeing, police said, while the other was seen in the area getting picked up by a Nissan Altima.

Police began a pursuit with the Altima and followed the vehicle toward Pittsburgh’s West End. Patrol units stopped the vehicle on West Carson Street, police said, where the male passenger was also taken into custody.

State police said the investigation continues with the help of multiple police agencies.

Police said there is no immediate threat to the public.
