Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh on Monday, March 22, 2023.

Four teenagers who attempted to sneak into Kennywood by climbing over a fence on Saturday will face criminal charges, according to a spokesperson for the park.

Communications manager Tasha Pokrzywa said the teenagers were spotted by the park’s new camera system “with AI technology” around 2 p.m. yesterday.

Police and park security officers responded and arrested three of the teenagers, who are facing multiple charges. The fourth teenager will also be charged with trespassing. All four will be banned from the park.

“The safety and security of our guests and team members is our top priority,” Pokrzywa said. “We are pleased that our enhanced security procedures, including enhancements to our perimeter, new technology and increased police presence enabled us to immediately detect and apprehend those responsible.”

The security upgrades came after three people were injured in a shooting at Kennywood last September, and after Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. threatened to prevent Kennywood from opening for the season if the park did not upgrade its security based on his recommendations.
