When students in West Jefferson Hills School District return to classes on Aug. 29, they will be under the direction of new superintendent and Thomas Jefferson High School graduate Janet Sardon.

She officially starts her duties on Aug. 8.

The new superintendent will lead the continually-growing district – “The West Jefferson Hills enrollment has increased 12.1% since 2016-17 and is Allegheny County’s second-fastest growing school district, according to Pa. Dept. of Education data,” said district public relations coordinator Jeff Nelson.

Health and safety regarding covid-19 will remain a focus for West Jefferson Hills.

“The district’s health and safety plan was updated and approved by the school board earlier this year and will be updated and reviewed by the board for approval in August,” Nelson said. “The district continues to monitor the Covid-19/health and safety protocols and follows the required guidelines as set forth by the state and health department.”

The school board work session meeting is 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in Thomas Jefferson High School Theater.

Nelson also said that the district has some openings for part-time staff, “similar to what other districts are experiencing.”
