Charges filed in traffic crash that led to Jefferson Hills policeman's death
A Homestead man whose June car crash led to the death of a Jefferson Hills police officer has been arraigned on three homicide-related charges, borough police Chief Gene Roach said Wednesday.
Zachary W. Foltz, 23, of Homestead was taken into custody and arraigned Wednesday on charges of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter, Jefferson Hills police said in a news release.
Police said Foltz was headed south in the 200 block of Old Clairton Road the morning of June 3 when his car crossed into the northbound lanes and struck the car of on-duty Jefferson Hills Police Officer Dale Provins Jr.
Following the head-on crash, both men were airifted by medical helicopter. A 15-year veteran with the department, Provins died 10 days later.
Foltz also faces driving under the influence, drug possession and related traffic charges.
Court documents do not list an attorney for Foltz, who could not be reached for comment.
