Baldwin-Whitehall School District officials announced all students will switch to remote learning Tuesday due to rising covid-19 cases.

Superintendent Randal Lutz said via district website post Monday that students would remain online through at least Dec. 11.

“All students are expected to join their classes as they normally would have in the hybrid learning model,” Lutz wrote.

The superintendent said Tuesday that staffing was a major factor when making the call to full distance learning.

“While we have been examining our daily trends and communicating serious, growing concerns about safely staffing our schools for several weeks, we realize that a shift to full remote, even temporary, creates an incredible burden on students, parents, and the community,” Lutz said. “Especially because we believe our strict protocols and practices are making our schools among the safest possible places for our students to be.”

Lutz said the district will carefully monitor conditions both inside and outside its communities.

He said Baldwin-Whitehall teachers are up to the task of continuing education in the online format.

“Our educators have prepared for this,” Lutz said, “and will deliver quality instruction through the online programs while we continue to invest ourselves in continuously advancing our online and hybrid programs consistently until we are able to resume normal operations.”

Additional information about student schedules for after the Thanksgiving break is expected to be released Wednesday.
