The Tull Family Foundation donated $20 million to Sewickley Academy, making it the largest donation in the school’s history, according to the school’s press release on Tuesday.

Head of Sewickley Academy Ashley Birtwell expressed how thrilled she was about the possibilities the donation brought for the school.

“As we continue to position the Academy for the future and prepare for the next 100 years, it is critical that we put in place now the academic programs and infrastructure necessary to ensure our place in this community for years to come. This generous donation from the Tulls enables us to do just that,” Birtwell said via the release.

According to Sewickley Academy, the donation will be used to help with program enhancements, new comprehensive scholarship initiatives, an advanced computer science program and improved facilities.

The Tull Family Foundation was not immediately available for comment.

The foundation is “committed to supporting STEM-based educational initiatives and athletic opportunities which are designed to help level the playing field,” the news release said. Donations have a goal of helping with education, conservation, and medical and scientific research, according to the foundation’s website.

Here is the breakdown of how funds will be used:

• Nearly $2 million will be dedicated toward computer science and STEM initiatives.

• More than $3 million will be used in direct support for faculty and staff, including college counseling, summer programs, learning support, and wellness and sports performance.

• Over $5 million in scholarships and resources will be used to expand access to Sewickley Academy.

• In excess of $10 million will be put toward improvements to facilities, including robotics and computer science labs and athletic field enhancements.
