Sewickley StoryWalk
Grab the family and take a walk through any of these spaces and enjoy one of four different fall nature picture books. A StoryWalk places pages from a children’s picture book along a walking path so that children and their caregivers may enjoy nature and reading together. From Sept. 25-Oct. 18, locations and books are: Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park, 1412 Beaver St., “The Busy Little Squirrel” by Nancy Tafuri; Fern Hollow Nature Center, 1901 Glen Mitchell Road, “The Little Yellow Leaf” by Carin Berger; Audobon Greenway, 160 Magee Road, “In the Middle of Fall” by Kevin Henkes; and Ohio Township Nature Center, 325 Nicholson Road, “Full of Fall” by April Pulley Sayer.
The Sewickley Public Library Children’s Department is co-hosting the walks.
Welcoming Everyone online storytelling
Welcoming Everyone and Sewickley Public Library will co-host an online storytelling event at which several stories/interviews will be heard. The readings will be followed by a Q&A session. After the event, Welcoming Everyone plans to share Local Voices with the public through its Facebook page and by email. The community is invited to participate in Local Voices with open minds and hearts in order to listen, learn and be inspired to make the community a welcoming place for all. The virtual event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Register online.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Sewickley Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative gives parents the tools to log the books they read to their children, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten.
Does it sound hard? Not really, if you think about it. If you read just one book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years!
The library’s website has a logging tool to track your reading and earn badges along the way. The logging sheet is also printable.
