Sen. Devlin Robinson appointed to committee leadership post, 5 other seats
Freshman state lawmaker Devlin Robinson has been appointed to a leadership position on a Senate committee and seats on five others.
Robinson, who won election as the 37th District representative in November, will serve as the vice-chairman of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, which oversees the Liquor Control Board, the state police and law enforcement issues. The committee also deals with marijuana legislation.
Robinson, R-Bridgeville, also was appointed to the state Senate’s Appropriations; Community, Economic and Recreational Development; Game and Fisheries; Labor and Industry and Local Government committees.
“Each of these committees will be addressing issues that will have a big impact on our community and the state,” Robinson said. “The issues likely to be debated by these committees include the state budget, liquor reform, community development, the state’s unemployment system, among others.”
The 37th Senate district comprises much of Allegheny County’s southern and western suburbs, including Bethel Park, South Park, Mt. Lebanon, Bridgeville, Moon, Upper St. Clair, Sewickley, Jefferson Hills and Peters in Washington County.
“Committees are a key part of the process in vetting and shaping legislation before it reaches the full Senate for consideration,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, R-34th. “Devlin is well-suited for these key committees and we look forward to the important role he will play in this process.”
Robinson won election to the Senate by defeating incumbent Democrat Pam Iovino, who was seeking her first full term in office.
Iovino won the seat in a 2019 special election to fill the vacancy created when Guy Reschenthaler was elected to Congress.
In remarks following his Jan. 5 swearing-in ceremony, Robinson said his priorities include “reducing crushing taxes and regulatory overreach that have stifled economic opportunity and holding the line on spending and taxes.”
He also said he is committed to “full, fair and consistent funding for school districts and supports reforming Pennsylvania’s public pension system.”
