Quaker Valley School District celebrates the first day of classes

Quaker Valley schools were once again packed with young learners and eager teachers.

First day of classes for the K-12 school district in the Sewickley area and neighboring boroughs was Aug. 21.

About 1,820 students are enrolled in the 2024-25 school year.

The district has 323 employees, including 164 teachers.

“Over the past few months, our team has been hard at work to ensure a smooth start to the school year,” Superintendent Tammy Andreyko said before the first bell rang. “We have diligently hired new staff members who will bring fresh energy and perspectives to our schools.

“Our facilities have received thoughtful updates, and we have carefully scheduled our students to provide them with the best possible learning environment. Here’s to a fantastic school year filled with growth, achievement, and community spirit.”

The administrative team members went to different schools to help cover all the bases and ensure students and staffers enjoyed Day One of their new journey.

District communications director Michelle Deitz visited the middle school, high school and Osborne Elementary.

“The first day of school is always filled with a very special type of energy and excitement,” Deitz said. “It was great to see teachers and students coming together and getting to know each other as they prepare to take on the new school year.”

She said there were no alerts from the district’s transportation department about any issues on buses or students missing their stops for arrival or dismissal.

“I think it went as smoothly as day one can,” Deitz said.
