Sewickley Public Library, 500 Thorn St., offers a number of in-person and virtual programs for patrons. For more information or to register for events, call 412-741-6920 or visit sewickleylibrary.org.

Outdoor cinema

Grab the kids, a blanket or some chairs – or all three – and head to the Sewickley Public Library for a heavy dose of Halloween nostalgia. “Hocus Pocus” is showing outside at 7 p.m. Oct. 10. Registration is required to ensure social distancing.

Candy Scavenger Hunt

Kids in grades 6-10 should run, not walk, to sign up for the Annual Candy Scavenger Hunt since the free event has limited spots available. Register for a 10-minute timeslot and grab as much candy as you can find. Costumes encouraged, masks required. The event is 7-9 p.m. Oct. 24. Register at www.tiny.cc/candyhunt.

School help

With a library card, students can use all resources at the Sewickley Public Library, including access to Tutor.com, which is available every day (even Sunday!) from 2-10 p.m. Tutor.com is a one-to-one online tutoring service connecting students to qualified tutors from any Internet-enabled computer. Students (and parents) can get help for any kind of academic question in math, science, English, social studies and writing. The tutors work with students in kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as AP-level class work and intro-level college coursework. Tutor.com also supports students through online drop-off writing reviews, practice quizzes and skill drills, video lesson libraries, and The Princeton Review SAT/ACT Essentials test prep. All you need is a library card and a computer or mobile device with internet access.

Sewickley StoryWalk

The Sewickley Public Library Children’s Department is pleased to be co-hosting the third Sewickley StoryWalk this fall with Fern Hollow Nature Center, Allegheny Land Trust and Mary Roberts Reinhart Nature Park and Ohio Township Nature Center.

Through Oct. 18, families can visit the sites at Fern Hollow Nature Center, Allegheny Land Trust-Audubon Greenway, Mary Roberts Reinhart Nature and Ohio Township Nature Center to take a self-guided walk around the parks and read a book as they go. Visitors are encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.

The StoryWalk at Fern Hollow Nature Center will feature the book “The Little Yellow Leaf” by Carin Berger. The featured book at Allegheny Land Trust-Audubon Greenway will be “In the Middle of Fall” by Kevin Henkes. At Mary Roberts Reinhart Nature Park, families can read the book “The Busy Little Squirrel” by Nancy Tafuri. And the StoryWalk at Ohio Township Nature Center will feature the book “Full of Fall” by April Sayer.

Virtual Storytimes

Virtual Storytimes are held each week at 9:30 a.m. The Tuesday session is Babies & Books, Wednesday is Stories for the 2s and 3s, Thursday is Preschool Storytime and Friday is Family Storytime.
