The Quaker Valley Region GOP is running advertisements on behalf of Quaker Valley school board candidates suggesting that Quaker Valley residents are paying significantly more in school taxes than residents in Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon and South Fayette. The truth is the exact opposite. School district taxes are significantly higher in those communities than those we pay here in the Quaker Valley School District.

School district millage rates are public information easily accessed on the Allegheny County Treasurer website.

Residents in Upper St. Clair pay 27.6772 mills in school taxes. Mt. Lebanon residents pay 25.59 mills. South Fayette residents pay 26.7 mills. We only pay 19.4711 mills here in the Quaker Valley School District.

So school taxes are 42% higher in Upper St. Clair, 31% higher in Mt. Lebanon and 37% in South Fayette, in comparison to what we pay here in Quaker Valley.

The current local school problem isn’t that our taxes are higher than competing school districts, it’s that our high school building is an embarrassment, by comparison, to almost any other high school in Allegheny County.
