Letter to the editor: Mier makes good points about QV high school
In the op-ed piece written by John M. Mier in the Feb. 18 edition of the Sewickley Herald, Mier makes several good points regarding the school board’s misguided purchase of 128 acres of sloped, undeveloped land for the site of a new high school.
First is the outright misrepresentation on the QVSD website that the PA Department of Education recommended that 42 acres is optimum for the high school. Mier proves this misrepresentation by quoting the PA Department of Education’s own website, which clearly states that there is no such recommendation.
Second, that building the new school on the current site is not unworkable and would greatly reduce costs.
Third, that the newly-purchased property is a current home to wildlife and mature hardwood trees.
His significant rationale for rethinking the site of the project certainly hits home. As Mier states, “We can do better.”
